For those of us who haven’t walked this road, I’m so grateful for the reminder that it’s ok to ask questions with love and grace, and not avoid it altogether. I think sometimes we’re so scared to say the wrong thing, we say nothing at all which must hurt so much more.
Yes, say their name! I love it when people ask me about Charlie--not just about grief and how we're handling it, but general questions about him--what would he think of something in the news, how did he like to spend his time, etc.
My "practice" is reading other mother's accounts of navigating the loss of their child. I'm no stranger to talking about it--I hold workshops about writing through grief, so I share my story--a LOT. I find it's a jolt every time, no matter how many years go by (2 for me) or how often I talk about her (Annie). Thanks for sharing this because you're right..talking about it helps others to feel and talk about their grief, too. xo
It's the kind of thing we don't ever want to be easy to talk about. So many people carry loss alone, and I truly believe loss is something that's meant to be shared, else it's too heavy. I'm sorry about your Annie. Take care -
Thank you for sharing

Thanks, Betsy. And I'm sorry about your Charlie, too. ♥️
