Woo-hoo! Today is the publication day for our Zibby Books novel The Last Love Note, a novel by Australian debut novelist Emma Grey. Why should you care or bother reading it? Here are all the perks.
The Last Love Note will make you feel. This story, about recently-widowed, single mom Kate and how she muddles through life with the help of her Tinder-obsessed best friend and her boss Hugh, will make you laugh, cry, get goosebumps, and perhaps even lust.
You will escape. The horrible news of the real world will fade away. Instead, you’ll be whisked off to Byron Bay in Australia. Without the 20-hour flight.
It will make you cherish the ones you love — even (especially?) those you sometimes snap at and take for granted. Why? It’s about the power of love — and how we pick ourselves up after we’ve lost someone we thought we couldn’t live without.
You'll be part of the cultural conversation. Other people love it. That shouldn’t matter but it kind of does, right?
It’s the Target December book club pick.
The Washington Post selected it as a top 10 read for November and December.
Good Morning America named it a top 15 book to read in November. (Okay, fine, I wrote that article, but still.)
It’s an Indie Next pick from the American Booksellers Association (ABA) which means it was nominated by so many independent booksellers that it’s one of the top 25 books for December.
It received a starred Booklist review, a Publishers Weekly review, and has a 4.2 rating on Goodreads and 4.5 rating on Amazon.
So many #bookstagrammers have posted about it that I’ve lost count.
It’s based on a true New York story. Emma lost her husband Jeff to a heart attack eight years ago. She had (has!) three children, including a five-year-old boy when it happened. She never thought she’d get over it. It wasn’t until she visited New York from Australia and sat down in the New York Public Library’s Reading Room that this story started pouring out of her. Last week, she sat back down there, pre-Thanksgiving, finished book in hand. And started her next one.
It will show you that no matter what you’re going through right now, you will get through it. You will survive. You will find a way through. And somehow, you will find happiness again.
Okay, you subscribe to my newsletter, so I’m guessing you maybe care about me a smidge?! I feel like everything in my life has led me to this moment.
Here’s the backstory: Emma’s friend/agent Anjanette Fennell read my memoir Bookends and reached out to me to share stories and sentiments. She kept in touch and supported the launch of Zibby Books. Then she thought of me for Emma’s book when it was about to come out with Penguin in Australia to great fanfare and suggested I take a peek; the rights were available. I read it the PDF on a flight to L.A. and was 100% obsessed. We snatched it up.
Emma is like my soulmate on the other side of the world. Her previous book? I Don’t Have Time. Not even kidding.
For me, the widespread acceptance of this book is proof that even though I had so many naysayers when I decided to launch a publishing company (me?! yes!), my decision to stick with it — despite all the setbacks and doubts and changes and everything else — was the right one.
They all said I couldn’t do it. But I’m doing it. Reading this book will remind you that you support entrepreneurship, new ideas, the courage to try something different, and the strength to persevere.
You’ll be reminded — shown, not told — that life is short. Now is the time. What do you want to do? How do you want to live? Who do you want to love? Your story is waiting for you. Just crack open the book and begin.
Did I convince you?! Now what?
