Passover in the Palisades

How was this night different from all other nights? In every way.

Kyle and I hosted Passover for the first time ever in our home in the Palisades. We’ve been back in the house for three months now and truly appreciate every single moment. It’s bittersweet, of course, to be “home” when so many of our friends and neighbors — thousands and thousands of neighbors — don’t have the option. But all around us, there has been growth, so much growth, not just in the surrounding area, but in us.

It wasn’t perfect. Kyle woke up early and started making the feast before 7 am. After spending most the day in the kitchen perfecting his first ever matzah ball soup, and roasting the shank bone, brisket, chicken, and potatoes (“If you want the house to smell like shabbat, you have to make the potatoes,” right, Rebecca Raphael?), he came outside with us for a quick dip in the pool.

The kids and I were reading, getting a bit of sunshine after a day mostly spent in my bookstore. Truth be told, I didn’t hear anything, but all of a sudden, he shot up and said, “The alarm!”
