My Son Inspired Me to Write This Poem
This perfectly describes my current phase of life and where I'm headed
This essay is part of the Between Chapters project, inspired by the book. What chapters are you between? How did you get from one chapter to another? Share your story here.
What Chapter Are You…
Leaving:
Being the parent of a baby.
In:
Being the parent of a toddler, who likes to, even amongst the chaos, not take life too seriously.
Entering:
The world of making life endlessly fun and curious for my toddler.
To people who say
“Traveling with toddlers is hard,”
You’re right.
It’s hard to hear
Him screaming,
“I’m at the zoo!”
While watching elephants roam,
And know he will
Never
Be here for the first time again.
It’s hard to hear
Him yelling,
“Home run!”
While jumping at a baseball game,
And know he will
Never
Be so carefree again.
It’s hard to hear
Him shouting,
“I see the ocean!”
While walking on a path,
And know he will
Never
Be so amazed by the world again.
It’s hard to hear
Him screeching,
“I’m awake!”
While happily skipping a nap
And know he will
Never
Be two again.
