Everything I have to share personally feels and sounds trivial compared to what’s going on in Israel. It’s hard to think about anything else. I saw an Instagram post recently about diaspora Jews that said when people ask us if we have family in Israel, we respond that the whole country is our family.
We put out a call for submissions this morning on
for essays, thoughts, even sentences, about how it feels to be Jewish now in the midst of the attacks. Please forward to those over there who can share what it’s like so the rest of us know and can amplify. Send to submissionsobjn@zibbymedia.com or just go to the post below and comment.Event
TOMORROW: Tuesday, June 17th at 11 am PT
I’m on vacation with my kids this week in L.A (hi, friends) but I’ll be doing one live podcast event at Zibby’s Bookshop, 1113 Montana Avenue, Santa Monica, CA with Ziggy Marley (Bob Marley’s son) about his new picture book Pajammin’ and his new documentary. Info here.
Podcast
Speaking of the podcast, we’re still in the midst of our June Listening Club with an episode every single day of June with giveaways daily. Hope you’re listening to Totally Booked with Zibby.
Did you catch my episode with Oprah’s Book Club pick Wally Lamb about The River is Waiting? And more to come every day.
If not now, when? After waiting weeks for my Jewish community to sponsor an outward show of support for Israel, I took matters literally into my own hands and took the Israeli flag that has hung outside our house since October 7th, used my Fanny pack as a flagpole holder, and took a 2 hour walk waving the flag proudly in two suburban NJ towns, all the while listening to a Free Press podcast with Bari Weiss. Win, win, win!! I got honks, thumbs up, a few ‘Free Palestines’ but, overall, it felt great. Suggest this alternative for everyone’s morning exercise regime. I’m forwarding your request for comments to my family now in bomb shelters in Tel Aviv. Am Yisrael Chai!!!!
